how to live // adventure

"What I want is a quiet life. I mean a life that listens: to other people, to my place, to silence. I want to notice even the smallest things, to stay immediate to my surroundings."
julie pointer -- kinfolk

People that know me, know that I am not quiet. Well sometimes I can be. But for the most part, I am very much alive. In every sense of the word. Where I live, the environment is fast-paced. People are always doing, and seeing, and going, and thisandthat. It's the way I have grown up. There's nothing wrong with that.

It's just that when I went to Oklahoma, I learned something new about myself. I learned how I wanted to live.

One night (while visiting Carlotta) we walked along the river and listened to live music for about an hour. People took it slow, mingling around and chatting like they had nothing else in the world to do. I felt restless, like I wanted to jump and run. I had never felt so at peace yet so jumbled. I have grown up in such a fast paced environment, that I don't know how to really and truly slow down.

Here in Oklahoma, people really live life. They don't go rushing around from one meeting to the next, constantly moving, bustling (such a great word) to and fro different things on a long list of to-do's. I think I have taken more naps this week than I ever have before. I definitely walked around and drank more water and spent more time thinking than I do back at home. I don't know what the water has to do with anything but it seemed like a good touch.

Kids have lemonade stands with their neighbors, teens go midnight bowling, families take a tour around their hometown, girls and boys and moms and dads enjoy life together. Slowly letting it sink in instead of watching it all fly by. That's something I want to cultivate in my own life.

You can still be very much alive and take time to enjoy what's slipping away.

I'm not an eloquent writer. I love writing out stories though. Something about recounting memories is awesome. I'll be posting more about my Oklahoma trip, funny stories, and lots and lots of pictures.

I know exactly what you mean. I constantly feel like I don't know how to slow down. But I have a feeling that if I went for a walk by the gorgeous lake, it could help put my mind at peace :)
