josh + emilee are married | a dickerson, md wedding

Photographers are all about stories. Using their images to tell stories about people, and then retelling those stories to their families, friends, and the rest of the world. The “problem” with reading blog after blog, post after post, is that it can make a person feel like being a “storytelling photographer” is so cliché. Let me tell you, it’s not. The way we think about it is what makes it seem cliché. So I hope you hit the refresh button in your brain and look at these images, as we all should with every new wedding/engagement/family, with new eyes. New Storytelling, Story-loving, Story-absorbing Eyes. NSTSLSAE. Yes, that just happened.

Let’s back up a bit on their “photography journey.” For those of you who do not know, last November, Josh’s mom called me and asked if I would take pictures of Josh proposing to Emilee. I have known Josh’s family for a while so I was ecstatic to get that call and have the opportunity to photograph that kind of milestone in their lives.

Then, I shot their engagement photos and they arm wrestled and laughed and were just generally cute so there’s that. But before I even started taking pictures of them, they met. And slowly, but then all at once, fell in love.

In college, Josh was the “cute English boy” (Emilee’s own words) and Emilee was the bubbly, athletic girl who was on the school newspaper committee. So obviously they would get along quite well. :) They met when she was working on some articles in her room, and Josh, who knew Emilee's roommate and was visiting, went over to help her out. They started dating in March of 2012, and as Josh puts it, “I fell hard and fast for this girl.” Emilee had been crushing on him ever since freshman year, after Josh named Emilee godmother to his ferret. (Pause. I think that's the cutest thing ever.) She started falling in love with Josh when she got to know him on a deeper level, and she saw his faith in Jesus + how he was leading her closer to Him as well. That’s what I love about these two. They challenge each other to be more like Jesus.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Josh treats Emilee with such respect. The way he looks at her, the way he speaks to her, everything is done with such care for her. Emilee cares for Josh. I have never heard her speak an unkind word about him. These two together, well I am so glad they are my friends, and that they are MARRIED. Woot woot! Enjoy these photos. (Remember, NSTSLSAE. Ellie out.)

The guys rode in accompanied by fireworks. "Making an entrance" just got real.

Her little wave.

Husband + wife!

And then we got our photo time with the cutest Josh + Emilee.

Off to the reception.

Let me just say, I knew that this party would be something because Josh + Emilee are completely fabulous. It was nothing short of a fantastic time.

One of my FAVORITE moments of the whole wedding: this "wedding."

"You may now HUG, hug, your bride."

The best men singing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight." >>>

As the sun went down, they went to cut the cake. They were saying, "How we do this? We haven't done it before!" ;) They smashed it good though. So cute.

Darn it, Ellie, I change my dream wedding location every time you post another shoot! ;) But no, these pictures are gorgeous. Your storytelling is top-notch. And I LOVE that there was like a three-part series. Plus my dad is kind of visible in one of the photos! (He played in the band.) Great work!
